Networking and events


NSW Young Farmers hosts a number of social and professional events each year, including our Annual General Meeting and pre-Conference networking event.

Young Farmer Business Program
The Young Farmer Business Program is a four year initiative of the NSW Government, delivered by the Department of Primary Industries. Initially developed in partnership with the NSW Farmers’ Association, our program provides professional development, coaching, workshops, business resources and mentoring to young farmers and fishers across NSW. It specifically aims to:

Provide knowledge and skills to improve social and business resilience, manage risk, execute effective plans and make decisions that ensure the viability of agricultural and fishing businesses across NSW
Provide access to new business ideas, tools and techniques
Support access to a range of products and services that engage with a wide diversity of skills, knowledge and experience within the primary industries business sector
Connect young farmers and fishers with opportunities that enable them to establish and /or expand their business.

Advocacy


Young Farmer Council
The NSW Young Farmer Council is comprised of our Young Farmer branch chairs from across the state, as well as two members appointed by the Young Farmer membership. The Council develops policy on issues relating to young farmers in NSW. Policy priorities for 2018-19 include:

Young Farmer finance and skills 
Lobbying government to remove stamp duty on the purchase of a first farm.
Increasing the availability and accessibility of skills training.

Raising the profile of NSW Young Farmers
Empowering young people to promote the work that NSW Farmers undertakes on industry’s behalf.
Increasing engagement with young farmers in small and emerging industries.

Young Farmer committee representative program 
The Young Farmer Council appoints representatives to each NSW Farmers advisory committee, ensuring that young farmers have a voice in policy decisions made by our Association. Representatives are appointed for two years as part of a competitive process, and must be NSW Farmers members.

Scholarships


NSW Farmers Association aims for excellence in the future workforce by awarding annual scholarships. Each year the Association awards five scholarships of $4,000 each. The Tertiary Scholarships demonstrate our commitment to our members and the industry by recognising the value of education to the future of agriculture.
