Central North-North West Exceptional Circumstance Area Announcement

The Federal Government announced on Thursday, 13 November 2008, that drought assistance would be extended for parts of northern NSW around Coonabarabran and the Northern Slopes until 30 April 2009.

The Central North North-West Coonabarabran Revision incorporates the Coonabarabran Rural Lands Protection Board (RLPB) district in it entirety. The Central North North-West Northern Slopes Revision includes the area:

  • east of the railway line that runs north to south through North Star in Division A of the Northern Slopes Rural Lands Protection Board (RLPB)
  • east of the road that runs north to south through Terry Hie Hie in Division B of the Moree RLPB
  • east of the road that runs from Rangeri, north past Rioter’s Hill towards Mt Byar in Division A of the Tamworth RLPB.

The extension is classified as a continuation of funding. Interest Rate Subsidy recipients will need to lodge a new application and Household Income Support recipients will need to complete a review form. All payments will be backdated to 1 October. Farmers are encouraged to contact the Rural Assistance Authority (1800 678 593) and Centrelink (13 23 16) regarding assistance.


NSW Mini Budget

The NSW Government handed down the State’s first Mini-Budget in four years on Tuesday 11 November 2008.  The Mini-Budget contained a number of announcements which will impact upon rural NSW. The Association is concerned about these announcements and therefore the Association will be seeking to meet with the NSW Government in the coming days.
