AgVet Chemical Reforms

NSW Farmers Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Chair, Reg Kidd, attended meetings with the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources on the proposed reform to the regulation of agricultural chemicals and veterinary medicines.  It is proposed that the reforms will improve the efficiency of chemical regulation to ensure that Australian farmers have access to productivity enhancing chemistry available to international competitors.  More detail on reform proposals are available on the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources' website.

Meetings were also held with the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority on the work they are undertaking to improve the efficiency of the chemical assessment process and its review of spray drift directions on chemical labels.

NSW Farmers will work with the NFF to provide an industry position to the Department prior to the next round of consultation.
