NSW Farmers makes submission to IPART review of multi-peril crop insurance (MPCI)

This week, NSW Farmers provided the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal with a submission in response to its assessment of MPCI incentive measures. The submission outlined support for IPART's draft finding that it wasunlikely that the establishment of a market for MPCI would reduce the need for other drought support measures. Additionally, NSW Farmers supported the proposed 5-year up-front subsidy of MPCI policies, however recommended that nay measure be accompanied by initiatives that would reduce the structural cost of providing MPCI. This is necessary to ensure that the benefits of a government initiative are maintained after the conclusion of any subsidy program.
