2.  Notification of neighbours

The Association’s involvement in the Pesticides Implementation Committee (PIC) until mid 2004, resulted in the development of a Statement of Principles for voluntary notification of neighbours of pesticide use, as part of implementation of the Pesticides Act 1999.

In 2001, the Association’s Agricultural Chemicals Committee in consultation with other industry groups developed the voluntary Statement of Principles (SOP) for notifying neighbours of pesticide use in agricultural settings. The SOP is a simple and effective mechanism that provides guidelines for good communication between agricultural pesticides users and their neighbours, about pesticide use except when required as a condition of a chemical registration.

The key objective for this priority area is:

• Maintain the voluntary nature of notification as underpinned by the Statement of Principles, as opposed to a regulatory approach under the umbrella of DEC/EPA.
