4.  Cattle Research - innovative technology regarding productivity

The Committee has a key role in ensuring that the beef industry continues to progress new technology for the benefit of cattle producers and industry.

The Beef industry needs to continuously improve productivity and profitability by using adaptable cattle. Tight seasonal conditions are pressuring producers and encouraging them to select adaptable cattle. Therefore, the Beef CRC Program 3 aims to research Gene Technology and find optimally adapted cattle.

The Committee will endeavour to lobby and analyse research projects and suggest areas that research can be carried out, such as DNA tests and non-genetic treatments to reduce parasite control costs and improve productivity and profitability of beef businesses by use of optimally adapted cattle and improvements in animal welfare. This will increase market access due to decreased residues, improved food safety and responsible production systems based on well adapted cattle.

The key objectives of cattle research is:

  • Encouraging research into Stomach Microflora
  • Monitoring the Beef CRC 3 Project
  • Suggesting further research into Gene Technology and pasture development
