7.  Automatic MLA voting entitlements

Currently levy payers are required to calculate their own entitlements and lodge and application requesting these entitlements.

As a result of the Association’s representations the Federal Government and the MLA have undertaken a consultancy to review the current arrangements.

The consultancy has developed an option papers that outlines options from the “status quo” to automatic calculations of voting entitlements.

The options paper outlines that automatically allocating individual producer votes would be almost twice as expensive to administer as the current systems, and would most likely have marginal benefit.

The Committee will further consider this proposal, before deciding how to respond to the options paper.

The key objective is to investigate the benefits of the automatic remittance of MLA voting entitlements, and membership, for cattle producer MLA levy payers to achieve greater participation in MLA activates and research uptake.
