Conservation and Resource Management

The Conservation and Resource Management Committee addresses the environmental and natural resource policy issues that affect the viability of farming in NSW. Climate change, the Prime Minister’s $10 Billion water plan, native vegetation, weeds and feral animals, are all priority issue for 2007/08.

Lobbying state and federal government to ensure that climate change policy both supports agriculture in adapting to increased temperatures and water scarcity, and does not impose unrealistic costs on the farm sector. Current policy is heavily biased towards the interests of the energy generators and energy related firms such as coal and alumina.
Achieving improvements in the assessment system for woody weeds. While difficulties still exist for many farmers, particularly in the range lands, the revised system is now producing adequate outcomes for others.
Representing the interests of water users in relation to the water reform process including stock and domestic rights, groundwater structural adjustment, water sharing plans, coastal water and bulk water pricing. Zero allocations imposed due to the drought have been a critical issue and the Association has made numerous representations to protect the interests of farmers and regional communities.
Lobbying the government to improve its delivery of weed and feral animal control programs.
