Grains

The grains industry in NSW is valued at $2.24bill which represents 30% of the national total. The Grains section of the NSW Farmers' Association pursues a broad range of issues with the aim of improving the profitability and overall business environment of its grain growing members.

Two staff in the grain section of the Sydney office provide secretariat support to the Grains Committee, the Associations Biotechnology Taskforce, the NSW Seed Growers Association as well as industry bodies like the Grains Council of Australia and the National Agricultural Commodity Marketers Association (NACMA).

Grains policy staff are available on 1300 794 000 to provide assistance with Grains Committee and Association Policy issues. You are also encouraged to call if you require assistance with grain contract disputes, general grain marketing issues, or you need information on something that you are hearing about in the media.

Diamond_Grey Priority Issues
Diamond_Grey Hot Issue

The Grains Committee priorities for 2007/08 are:

  1. Genetically modified grain
  2. Rail branch lines
  3. Wheat marketing arrangements
  4. Plant breeding
  5. Development of a grains peak body

Single Desk
The NSW Farmers Association is urging the Federal Government to consider the majority of wheat growers overriding support for the Single Desk system for bulk wheat exports.

The Association has been active in lobbying for the policy of the Association for the retention of the single desk and the Federal Government is acutely aware of our stance on the issue. They have stated that future wheat marketing arrangements will be in the interests of growers.
