Pork

The NSW pigmeat industry produces 120,000 tonnes a year with a gross value of $267million which is 30% of Australian production.

The NSW Farmers’ Association’s Pork Committee comprises six producers from Casino to Corowa, and represents all economies of scale from corporate to family farming. The committee, aims to improve the profitability of pork producers by removing business impediments. The Committee endeavors to compliment the activities of Australian Pork Limited (APL) and the NSW Pork Industry Taskforce (a Ministerial Advisory Committee) both bodies with significant lobbying power. The committee views that lobbying power begins with membership and this is its top priority.

The issues of significance are the cost of inputs, regulatory costs and the price of meat. Consultants espouse that numbers of pigs produced per sow per year has a greater impact on profitability than the issues of concern to us. Information on production is the realm of APL and NSW DPI.
