6. National Parks, Wild Dogs, Shire Rates, Kangaroo Management

The objective of this priority is to have NPWS adopt ‘good neighbour’ policies and compensate local Government for the loss of ratable income when it purchases WD land (members currently suffer when NPWS purchases a property as rates aren't paid, and kangaroos are not managed).

The Council also continues to work on kangaroo management and wild dog issues through our involvement on the Kangaroo Management Advisory Council and Wild Dog Destruction Board.

The Council has recently made submissions on the 2006 kangaroo management quota and ‘Skin-only shooting’ to try and ensure adequate measures are available to landholders to control pest populations.
