About the scholarships
NSW Farmers Association awards a number of scholarships each year under the Associations Tertiary Scholarship Program.
The Tertiary Scholarship Program was established in 1993 to provide an enhanced benefit for Association Members and to reward, promote and encourage excellence in tertiary studies from Members families.
The scholarships are open to students who are Members or come from a family that are Members (see Eligibility Criteria for full requirements), undertaking full time courses in their second or subsequent year of tertiary study (exceptions for the vocational scholarship). They are available to students studying any course (exceptions for the Agriculture Scholarship) at any recognised tertiary institution, and are not limited to studying in NSW.
In addition to the Association scholarships, in 2012 there will be four Goobang Fire scholarships which are jointly funded by the Association and the Goobang Group a group of farmers from Central West NSW who suffered losses in a bushfire at Goobang in 2001.
The eight scholarships will be allocated as follows:
- Goobang Scholarship Vocational: A full-time student in their first or second year of full-time study at a vocational level (e.g. Tocal).
- Goobang Scholarship Region 6: A student from NSW Farmers’ Association’s Region 6. Region 6 includes District Councils of Bathurst, Blayney, Molong, Mudgee, Oberon, Orange and Wellington.
- Goobang Scholarship Open Category: A full-time student in their second or subsequent year, undertaking any course of more than one year at a recognised tertiary institution.
- Goobang Scholarship Open Category: A full-time student in their second or subsequent year, undertaking any course of more than one year at a recognised tertiary institution.
- Association Agriculture Scholarship: A full-time student in their second or subsequent year, undertaking a course in agriculture of more than one year at a recognised tertiary institution.
- Association Open Category Scholarship: A full-time student in their second or subsequent year, undertaking any course of more than one year at a recognised tertiary institution.
- Association Open Category Scholarship: A full-time student in their second or subsequent year, undertaking any course of more than one year at a recognised tertiary institution.
- Association Open Category Scholarship: A full-time student in their second or subsequent year, undertaking any course of more than one year at a recognised tertiary institution.

Assessment Criteria
Applications will be assessed by the Tertiary Scholarship Selection Panel on the basis of your:
- Academic record and status;
- All-round ability including communication skills, leadership qualities and practical application; and
- Commitment to agriculture and rural communities
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for a scholarship, you, your partner or your parents must be current Full Producer Members of the Association and have been for the previous two consecutive years before the date on which you apply. NB: Applicants are not eligible to apply under Student or Associate Membership, unless attached to a full Membership.
- You need to be a full time student, in your second or subsequent year of full-time study, undertaking any course of more than one year at a recognised tertiary institution. NB: Applicants for the vocational scholarship can be in their first or second year of study.
- Family members of the Goobang Fire Group are ineligible to apply for a Goobang Scholarship
Application Process
- Information is distributed through Association publications and applications are available from the Association offices by contacting 1300 794 000 or online (see link below).
- A Tertiary Scholarship Panel consisting of elected Members of the Association review the applications and select a short list of candidates for interviews.
- Interviews are usually conducted in the second week of the Easter break.
- Applicants will be notified of their success (or otherwise) following the interview process.
- Successful applicants are invited to attend the Association’s Annual Conference in July to receive their Scholarship
