What is APPLEQUEST?

AppleQuest is an initiative of the NSW Farmers’ Association
– a not for profit organisation that represents the farmers and the farming industry of NSW.

The key aim is to distribute apples into NSW schools to promote the benefits of healthy eating and its role in alleviating childhood obesity, while also educating youth on the journey of an apple from farm to table and the important role farmers play in the supply of fresh produce.

Participating in AppleQuest

Registered schools will receive approx 300 apples. How you participate in AppleQuest is therefore influenced by the total number of students at the school. Here are some ideas:

AppleBullet For schools with 300 students or less
It is recommended that the school participates as a whole with a dedicated AppleQuest day. On this day, all students in the school should receive an apple (perhaps at the weekly school assembly) with an introduction to AppleQuest. Students should then return to the classroom and over the course of the 2 weeks teachers should screen the ‘Apple’ DVD and implement the classroom activities as provided in the education kit. The AppleQuest Honour Roll should feature in every classroom.

AppleBullet For schools with more than 300 students
It is recommended that individual classes register with their schools AppleQuest Coordinator to participate in the challenge and therefore the students in the registered classes would be the ones to receive the apples - for a school with an average class size of 25, this would mean that 12 classes could register to participate in the challenge. Registered classes must commit to screening the ‘Apple’ program and implementing the classroom activities. The educational kit should be kept in a central location where the registered classes can easily access it.
