About the Awards
The NSW Farmer of the Year and NSW Young Farmer of the Year Awards are designed to recognise excellence in farming within NSW. A joint initiative by NSW Farmers' Association and NSW Industry & Investment and supported by the Royal Agricultural Society and The Land, the awards have a particular focus on acknowledging farmers who combine sustainable environment practices with profitable production.
To further develop and improve their farming enterprise:
Farmer of the Year is awarded $10,000
Young Farmer of the Year is awarded $5,000
FARMER OF THE YEAR WINNERS - 2011-12
Farmer of the Year 2012-13 will be announced at Annual Conference in July 2012.
FARMER OF THE YEAR: Norm Smith
Norm Smith is a leader in the Central West farming community, he believes in running his land sustainably while dramatically improving his profitability. A reluctant nominee, Norm was put forward for NSW Farmer of the Year by family, colleagues and friends.
Norm runs ‘Glenwood’ a 2800ha grazing property 29 km east of Wellington in a way that balances the needs of the environment, profit, family and community. Norm is a fourth generation farmer on his land and his wife and five children help him run the farm.

RUNNERS UP: John and Liz Manchee
John and Liz Manchee own and run Manchee Agriculture, a Narrabri based beef breeding operation, producing stud and commercial cattle with a strong emphasis on ‘paddock to plate’ attributes.
Manchee agriculture consists of three properties, two of which are situated between the Namoi River and Nandewar range. The third is North East of Narrabri. Manchee agriculture employs three local people as well as four family members who are active in the business.

YOUNG FARMER OF THE YEAR: Marc Greening
Marc Greening manages Injemira, a family operated cattle stud and commercial beef business, from two properties on the NSW south west slopes.
His parents and an employee look after day-to-day tasks, while Marc is responsible for all cattle work and marketing.

RUNNER UP: Alan McCormack
Alan McCormack manages “Walwa”, a 3,300 hectare mixed farm on the NSW southern tablelands, midway between Goulburn, Crookwell and Gunning, in partnership with his father, Alan senior.
Their farm’s 14,000 head sheep business consists of a Merino stud, a large fine and superfine commercial flock, first cross ewe production and prime lamb production.
