Farmers get together for a social day out

Farmers work long hours and often alone so the Hartley Branch of NSW Farmers Association is putting on a barbecue to bring like minded growers together for a social day out.

NSW Farmers’ Association Region 6 Chair John Lowe said the event is aimed at bringing together people with an interest in food and fibre production.

“It is great to socialise and network with other people doing the same thing. We often don’t stop to take the time to do this so this day will give people a good excuse to put tools down for a day,” said Mr Lowe.

NSW Farmers President Fiona Simson said the association had supported several similar social events during the year.

“I hear from our members that they want to belong to a group like ours because they feel a part of something. It is also gives them opportunities to mix with people grappling with similar things,” Ms Simson said.

The function will take the form of a barbecue lunch at the Liddleton Woolshed with all donations towards the lunch going to the RU OK? Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to encouraging conversations to prevent suicide and one which is supported by NSW Farmers.

Mr Lowe said: “With our industry facing a wide range of issues including the stress of the fires in recent days, it is more important than ever for people to have a day out. It will be a great day and we will be helping a great cause at the same time so I hope a lot of people will join us,” Mr Lowe concluded.
