Farmers welcome strategic review of weed control

NSW Farmers today welcomed the announcement of a major strategic review of weed control in NSW.

NSW Farmers spokesperson Mitchell Clapham said the association had consistently called for a strategic approach to weed control across the state and it was a good sign that the government had finally reached the same conclusion.

“There is a need for a fully transparent and state wide process that delivers a coordinated program for weed control which is consistent across all land tenures, public and private.

“We hope the review assists the new Local Land Services agency to put in place a coordinated program and I look forward to all stakeholders being able to work together to get this system right,” he said.

NSW Farmers will be making a submission to the review and will highlight the many ways of improving strategic weed control across all tenures.

The review will be conducted by Dr John Keniry, Commissioner for Natural Resources, and will look into weed management, existing regulation, governance and other intergovernmental agreements for biosecurity.
