NSW Farmers welcomes NFF’s digital initiative

NSW Farmers today welcomed National Farmers Federation’s announcement about a digital initiative for agriculture.

The initiative was unveiled in Sydney by the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and will include a start up incubator, a digital agriculture service and an online platform, accessible to all farming enterprises nationwide.

NSW Farmers President Derek Schoen said: “The initiative builds on work pioneered by NSW Farmers in the digital innovation field, including the AgInnovators.com.au portal.”

“We have been working with Data61, CSIRO and other bodies for several years to help drive the uptake of digital innovation and advanced technology in agriculture.

“Today’s announcement represents improved coordination across the representative farm sector with regard to innovation and commercialisation processes for new technology,” he said.

Mr Schoen said AgInnovators.org.au, which was launched at Data61 in August 2014, will provide the innovation news and extension channel in the new national cloud services model.

AgInnovators is a digital communication and extension channel about cross cutting, disruptive innovation at all levels and across all sectors in the food and fibre value chain.

As a globally facing portal, with significant traffic from international users, it aims to play an increasingly important role in promoting the technical capability and sustainability of Australian food and fibre production and value adding services, as well as the quality and safety of products.

AgInnovators has a sustainable production agenda and promotes how technology and science is integral to doing more with less and achieving triple-bottom-line sustainability outcomes.

“We want to get everyone in the food and fibre value chain excited about the new technology and the opportunities.
