Workshops for Landholders on Mining and Coal Seam Gas

NSW Farmers will hold workshops for landholders on mining and coal seam gas, including land access arrangements and landholder rights, at Coonamble, Dubbo and Mudgee in the first week of March.

“With minerals, coal and coal seam gas applications or titles now covering the majority of NSW, farmers are increasingly facing competition for use of their land from mining and petroleum companies,” NSW Farmers CEO Matt Brand said.

“NSW Farmers provides an information service for members and non-members to ensure they are informed when making decisions regarding their land, water and interests, when considering mining and coal seam gas proposals in their area or when dealing with an exploration company which seeks access to their land.

“Farmers and landholders want up to date and accurate information on mining and coal seam gas from a source they trust, and these workshops are an opportunity for landholders to get that information and to ask any questions they have.”

Information will be provided at the workshops on:

  • mining and coal seam gas activity in the area,
  • the NSW Government’s Strategic Regional Land Use Policy package and how that applies to mining and coal seam gas proposals and
  • landholder rights and land access arrangements with exploration companies.

“We’ve had excellent feedback from farmers and landholders who have attended past workshops,” Mr Brand said.

“Great information, vibrant and engaging presenters with good practical examples’, one Riverina farmer commented.”

The workshops will be held:

  • Coonamble – 7pm to 9:30pm, Tuesday, 4 March – Coonamble & District RSL Club, 18 Castlereagh Street .
  • Dubbo – 7pm to 9:30pm, Wednesday, 5 March – Dubbo RSL Club, Cnr Brisbane Street & Wingewarra Street.
  • Mudgee – 7pm to 9:30pm, Thursday, 6 March – Club Mudgee, 99 Mortimer Street.

The workshops are free for both NSW Farmers members and non-members and will be held as part of the NSW Farmers Mining and Coal Seam Gas Communications Project which is funded by the NSW Government.

The workshops will be conducted by NSW Farmers Mining and Coal Seam Gas Officers Scott Harlum and Jess Harwood.
