National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) - Cattle

The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) is Australias scheme for the identification and tracing of livestock. This NLIS enhances Australia's ability to respond quickly to a major food safety or disease incident in order that access to key export markets is maintained. It is a key industry initiative in partnership with Governments across Australia.

The Cattle Committee will continue to monitor issues relating to NLIS through communications with Members.

The Committee has successfully lobbied for the NSW NLIS Consultative Committee to be reinstated. The Consultative Committee provides an avenue for the Association to represent and discuss our Members concerns with the NLIS. Bob Barwell represents the Cattle Committee on the Consultative Committee.

The Committees key objectives of NLIS are to:

  1. Continually consult with members and monitor issues that arise.
  2. Continual correspondence with the NLIS Consultative Committee.
  3. Ensure that the changes and developments in the NLIS are continually communicated to members.
