Conservation & Resource Management

CRMHeadPhotoThe Associations Conservation and Resource Management (CRM) Committee and policy team strive to address the environmental and natural resource policy issues affecting the viability of farming in NSW.  The CRM Committee, chaired by Rod Young, works on behalf of the Association to issues ranging from resource security to feral animal control to land use planning.  Some of the tasks we undertake are:

• Lobbying to remove the biodiversity cost-shift; restore the regional native vegetation model; introduce the application of triple bottom line sustainability principles;

• Advocating for improved mining and planning legislation to achieve food and water security;

• Representing the interests of water users in relation to the water reform process including: stock and domestic rights, groundwater structural adjustment, water sharing plans, coastal water and bulk water pricing;

• Achieving improvements in the assessment system for woody weeds.  While difficulties still exist for many farmers, particularly in the rangelands, the revised system is now producing adequate outcomes for others; and

• Lobbying the Government to improve its delivery of weed and feral animal control programs.

Priority Issues

The Committee and policy staff work on a wide range of issues including:

  1. Native Vegetation
  2. Mining
  3. Water
  4. Landuse Planning
  5. Weeds & Pest Animals
  6. Climate Change
