Modern Horticulture Award 2010

Hort_MHA_ThumbnailThe NSW Farmers' Association (the Association) has welcomed the Governments decision to request the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) to re-examine conditions under the Horticulture Award 2010 (the Award).

Members have expressed their concern about the likely adverse impact of the Award Modernisation process on the Horticulture sector.

The Association provided real case studies, member payrolls, ran hypothetical payrolls to quantify the increase in payroll and administrative burdens. Comparisons between the old and new Award demonstrated a 30% increase in overheads.

The Industrial Association has been working with the NFF in making submissions on behalf of its Members to the AIRC as to how the detrimental effects that would arise from the HA2010. This has included developing case studies on the effects of these changes on Association Members.

The Association, through the NFF, has maintained regular dialogue with Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Julia Gillard MP in relation to the likely negative effects to seek a solution that will remove the inflexibilities. In response to the submissions made by the NFF and NSW Farmers Industrial Association, Minister Gillard has varied the Award Modernisation Request to the AIRC.
The AIRC will now reconvene consultations with industry stakeholders in the development of new provisions within the Award. The NFF will be putting recommendations to the members of its Workplace Relations Committee.
