Sustainable production practices
The Pork industry is committed to improving sustainable production practices to ensure they have minimal environmental impacts. The Pork Committee believe that the burgeoning demands for free range pork fostered by major supermarket marketing initiatives is encouraging producers to raise pigs in outdoor systems to meet the emerging niche market of free range. With minimal definition and legislative supervision for free range producers, environmental sustainability and animal welfare are at risk. The Pork committee would like to address this issue to protect the marketable image of free range and ensure its longevity.
