Sheepmeats

Sheepmeat_ThumbnailThe NSW Farmers Association Sheepmeats Committee is comprised of 6 grower members elected by the Associations Executive Council, its policy setting body. The Sheepmeats Committee is classed as an Advisory Committee to Executive Council so therefore it can only advise on policy to Executive Council, it cannot form Association policy in its own right. The Committee members are located across all Sheepmeat growing regions of NSW, therefore ensuring strong representation on the issues facing Sheepmeat producer members of the Association.

The Committee contributes at a national level through Sheepmeats Council of Australia and at a state level the Committee is in close contact with other Association Committees, particularly the Wool Committee and the Animal Welfare Committee.

National Ovine Johne’s Disease Plan 2012-2017

NSW Farmers Sheepmeat and Wool Committees have been working in conjunction with WoolProducers Australia and the Sheepmeat Council of Australia in ensuring that the revised Ovine Johne’s Disease Plan, due to commence on 1 July 2012, will best meet the needs of sheep producers in NSW, whilst also achieving the objective of minimising the economic impact of the disease in the endemic areas and minimising the spread of the disease to the non-affected areas.

OJDNSWMapOJD Prevalence Area changes from 1 January 2011

From 1 January 2011 some OJD prevalence area boundaries in NSW were moved to reflect changing infection rates around the state.

Industry & investment NSW and the NSW Farmers Association chose to undertake and rely on a detailed assessment of prevalence in each LHPA area.

This study has found that through making minor adjustments, it is possible to improve the schemes integrity while actually putting more producers in an improved prevalence area. Click here to read more...
