Wind Power
The actions of wind developers and the operation of planning laws have lead to a great deal of angst about the development of the wind power industry in many rural communities.
NSW Farmers does not take a stance supporting or opposing wind power. Our only objective is to ensure that our members who host or neighbour turbines are getting a fair share of the benefits and are treated fairly by both wind developers and the planning system.
NSW Farmers is working to:
1. Reform the planning regime for wind turbines to give those most affected a greater say;
2. Ensure members have the information they need to make informed decisions about selling their wind resource; and,
3. Develop a code of practice for the way the wind industry engages with landholders and communities. The Draft NSW Planning Guidelines for Wind Farms
The NSW Government released draft planning guidelines for wind farms on 23 December 2011. The draft guidelines set out the regulatory framework for assessment and determination of wind generation proposals in NSW. The draft is currently out for consultation and feedback is being sought until 14 March 2011.
Members are encouraged to contact NSW Farmers with their feedback on the draft to assist in developing a comprehensive submission on the guidelines.
