Control and Accountability of Grower Funds
WoolPoll 2006 concluded on 3 November 2006, the result was announced at the Australian Wool Innovation AGM on 14 November 2006. The main results were as follows:
- The levy that wool producers pay when they sell their wool is to stay at the current 2% level
- The 2% option received more then 55% of the primary vote, negating the need to use a preferential system.
- More the 50% of avaliable votes were lodged
- There was a resounding yes vote for both of the supplementary questions
- 57% of NSW votes were for the 2% option
The Wool Committee is keenly anticipating the result of the Test Marketing Campaign (funded by $1.50/bale buyer surcharge) which has been launched in the USA for the06 northern hemisphere winter season. The second part of the campaign has recently been launched through the Dillards chain of stores in the Southern states of the USA,.
The Committee will continue to monitor the program and maintains its view that it will not support the continuation of the levy after the completion of test campaign. Therefore another means of allowing (and managing) the financial contribution of the early stage processing sector will need to be investigated.
