Power factor correction

Synopsis

Some farmers are unaware that their electricity bill can be reduced by improving the “power factor” of their facility. A poor power factor is analogous to a beer with too much head - the head representing wasted energy. Networks penalise facilities with poor power factors by increasing ‘’demand” or “capacity” changes. The installation of power factor correction devices can help ensure farm electrical equipment efficiently uses the voltage provided by the network and that penalties are not applied due the facility presenting unpredictable demand to the system.
