Bovine Johne's Disease Survey

In 2004, NSW began to move towards a more risk based approach for managing Bovine Johnes Disease (BJD). As part of this process, a review is required to determine the best way forward for managing BJD in NSW.

The Association is seeking feedback from beef and dairy members to form the basis of the submission. Please complete the questions below to assist the Association in responding to our Members.

Q6. In March 2008, the NSW Government moved to a more risk-based approach for managing BJD, which would decrease the negative impact of the disease on individual producers. Were you aware of the changes to the BJD control program?

Q10. A move to a risk-based control model reduces the penalties on farmers whose cattle contract the disease and it places greater emphasis on buyers checking the status of cattle they buy. Do you think this is an effective model for controlling BJD?
