HollieA WORD FROM THE CHAIR

The end of another year is upon us and what a year it has been!!!
Our two events in Sydney and Tamworth were a great success thanks to our funding friends at DAFF and it has been especially fantastic to see so many new faces :)
We have had a lot of positive response for our Young Farmer Finance Scheme. It is currently within Government; we are now waiting on the finalities of the scheme before it is hopefully brought in by July 2012.
Harvest is looking promising over most of the state. The YFC is wishing you all luck over this critical time of year. Keep smiling even if the trucks don’t turn up, or the backpacker has fallen asleep on the header or god forbid - it starts raining. You are the backbone of this country - don’t forget that.
If you have any thoughts or ideas about upcoming events or ways in which the YFC can help you, please email or give me a call.
Thanks for a great year everyone
HollieSig

BEC'S BITES

BecAs usual there is a lot happening in Head Office.

VFF YAP’s Conference
Brooke Cutler from Collarenebri in Northern NSW and I recently attended the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) Young Agribusiness Professionals (YAP’s) Annual Conference. The Conference provided us with a great opportunity to see what other young farmer groups in other states are doing. The Council is very keen to try to have a joint event with YAP’s next year which will allow us to continue to network and learn from other young farmers.

Tertiary Scholarships
Tertiary Scholarship applications are now open. The $5000 scholarships are open to uni and TAFE students who show exceptional leadership qualities and who are passionate about rural Australia. There are 8 scholarships available. Applications close on 10 Feb 2012. Check out www.nswfarmers.org.au for more info!

WH&S seminars
With new Workplace Health and Safety laws (replacing OH&S) coming into force early next year, make sure you get yourself along to a NSW Farmers seminar to learn how these changes may affect you and your business. These seminars are free for members!
Call 1300 794 000 for more info.

ON THE FARM WITH...
BrianDampneyBRIAN DAMPNEY

Where are you? Narrabri, Northwest NSW
What do you do? Cropping (cereals and legumes)
What makes what you do different? I think we are pretty mainstream, however in the past few years we have gone from mainly livestock production to mainly cropping but I don’t believe you should put “all your eggs in one basket”
What’s next? I would like to be able to buy more land, and continue expanding. I also think it would be good to get back into livestock.
