Goodman Foundation donates $750,000 to fire recovery for farmers

The Goodman Foundation, the philanthropic arm of global industrial property company Goodman Group, has donated $750,000 to the NSW Farmers' Natural Disaster Relief Fund to support the bushfire recovery process for farmers in NSW.

NSW Farmers' President James Jackson said the funds will initially be used to help provide fodder and water to farmers in the north east and south east bushfire affected regions.

“We will be working with registered and respected charities with established logistics networks to achieve this,” Mr Jackson said.

“Further short term support may also include access to generators, emergency fencing repairs to contain livestock or irrigation repairs for orchards.”

“This is the sort of assistance needed now to get farmers back in the business of producing local food and fibre and this donation from the Goodman Foundation will help make that happen.”

Mr Jackson said the generosity of all Australians has been inspiring for volunteer fire fighters, farmers and rural communities.

“There is no doubt about it Australians know how to band together to support those in crisis.”

“Individuals and communities have been affected in a range of ways. Farmers have lost essential fodder that would have helped them feed remaining stock as the drought deepens, horticulturalists have lost productive fruit trees and greenhouses; grain growers have had paddocks scorched and all have lost essential operating infrastructure – particularly boundary fencing.”

“If you are considering how best to support farmers recover, I would encourage making it a financial donation to the NSW Farmers' Natural Disaster Relief Fund, which is a registered charity.”
