Crown lands lease conversions a win for farmers

NSW Farmers welcomes the opportunity for graziers and primary producers in the Western Division to convert their Crown Lands leases to freehold.

Chair of the NSW Farmers’ Western Division Council Greg Rogers says the Association had been advocating for this opportunity for almost 30 years.

“For lease holders, this means greater certainty, improved flexibility in business planning, and opportunities for diversification.”

“We are pleased the NSW Government has listened to the pleas of farmers in the western division- working closely with lessees in the development of the Crown Land Management Act 2016 that has allowed for this opportunity,” Mr Rogers said.

Importantly for Western Division Crown Land Lessees, the Department has undertaken an extensive transition and engagement strategy that means we are well informed of the timing and the next steps for those with eligible leases.

NSW Farmers looks forward to the full enactment of the Crown Land Management Act, and further advice on next steps following the initial report of the Review of the Travelling Sock Reserves.
