NSW Farmers’ Association appoints new CEO

The Board of NSW Farmers has appointed Pete Arkle as the Association’s new chief executive officer.

Mr Arkle will join the Association next month following 12 years with agribusiness Syngenta in sustainable agriculture, corporate and public affairs.

Mr Arkle has also previously worked in policy roles for the Department of Agriculture and the National Farmers’ Federation.

President of NSW Farmers, James Jackson, said he was delighted to welcome Mr Arkle to the team.

“Agriculture today has many opportunities and challenges and we need considered strategic leaders to best position the organisation in this environment.

“The board and the staff at NSW Farmers are looking forward to working with Pete and we have no doubt his extensive experience in agriculture has him well placed to lead the team.”

Mr Arkle says he is excited to be stepping into the role of CEO.

“With agriculture a strong focus at a state and federal level, and elections looming in the first half of 2019, the need for a  strong and effective voice for farmers in NSW is more important than ever.

“I look forward to working with James, the Board and the staff as we enter this critical year ahead, and to make a difference in key areas including land and water resource security, drought management, and in strengthening community connection with farming.”

Mr Arkle will join NSW Farmers on 12 November.
