NSW Farmer shines light on solar development

NSW Farmers Billabong Branch is holding a Community Meeting on 28 November at the Culcairn bowling club to explore the development of Solar Infrastructure in the Greater Hume area.

Guest speakers include NSW Farmers Economist Ash Salardini and representatives from Transgrid, the Department of Planning and solar farm developer Neoen.

Branch chair Peter Campbell said the meeting will be an opportunity for Members to express and gather opinions about large scale solar development in the region.

“Some of these proposed solar farm developments really are large scale, including an 1100-hectare farm just outside of Culcairn,” Mr Campbell said.

“There is some uncertainty out there in the farming community about why these projects are proposed for this region and any potential positive or negative impacts on nearby farming operations.”

Mr Campbell said NSW Farmers has organised a line of speakers to shine a light on this uncertainty, which will lead to informed feedback from local farmers.

“For example, the Department of Planning will provide some information on the State significant development process for large-scale solar energy developments, the NSW Large-Scale Solar Energy Guidelines and a guide for host landowners.”

The meeting will take place at the Culcairn Bowling club on Wednesday, November 28, starting at 6.00pm. It is open to all Members and potential members are welcome to join on the night to have their say.
